Welcome to 6th Grade!
We look
forward to a great year at Hunter. We will strive to help your child have a
deeper appreciation of Literature. We will be using a variety of texts to ensure
they are well rounded. For vocabulary we use Wordly Wise. We will be using the
Literature Book as well as a variety of novels, Weekly Reader, and other
materials to cover the State Literature Standards. There will be a great deal of
emphasis on figurative language, story elements, literary devices, author's
purpose, and building vocabulary throughout the year. We have a great deal to
cover, and it's important that the students read daily at home.

Grades are taken from a
variety of sources. Tests are given throughout the 9 weeks. These are scheduled
ahead of time. Quizzes will be given through out the 9 weeks. These are
scheduled ahead of time. Quizzes will be given when necessary. These may occur
without notice. Homework is assigned consistently. The student should have this
written in their Agenda. Class work is work we do in class. This usually is not
taken up until the next day and may result in homework if it is not completed
during the allowed time. Homework is essential for students to practice what we
are learning. We have just a small amount of time during class. For students to
be prepared for the next level they must spend a few minutes reviewing each day.
We want our students to be the very best middle school students they can
be.
